Who is David Pitlyuk?

David PitlyukWho is David Pitlyuk? First you need to know how to say my last name. It’s not as hard as it looks, it’s pronounced “Pit-Luck”. But, since I know it’s still confusing, my blog is DavePit.com.

I started my first real business at the age of 16 (1996), it was a website called SystemLogic.net. My biggest hobby at the time was computers, so I decided to review hardware and put my thoughts online. Throughout the 4 years I went through a lot of changes and learned a lot of things…I wasn’t doing something your average 16 year old was up to. Eventually the site changed its name to SLCentral.com, and by 2002 I was ready to move on to my next endeavor. I sold the site to a guy who lived in the UK, although I wish I held onto it longer as I think it would be worth some major change by now. By that time it was generating over 1 million pageviews a month, and had survived the dot com crash.

Now that I was a little older, I started to get into cars. I picked up a 2003 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE and immediately started to toy with it. It was during this time when I was an active member of a forum called Altimas.net that I had met my soon-to-be business partner for my next venture. After a short period of time we had remotely launched ActiveTuning, a manufacturer of aftermarket parts for Nissan and Infiniti vehicles. What do I mean by remotely? My business partner lives in Wisconsin, and I live halfway across the country in Virginia. We had almost gone a year with the business before ever even speaking on the phone. This is the true power of the internet. Although it is part-time, the company has been successful in my eyes. More importantly, I have learned and developed so much based on my experiences and through the people I’ve met.

Since then, I’ve launched a parent company by the name of dpitMedia.  I essentially put all of my companies under this name (not all of them are publicly known companies), and my most recent bigger site is Carbon Fiber Gear.  What initially started out as an experiment in affiliate marketing, turned into a viable business…a popular blog and an eCommerce store that has brought in over $10,000/month in sales.

Even with all this business stuff, I do have a day job. I work for a large new media company as a project manager here in Northern Virginia. Many people have a bad outlook in terms of working in a corporate environment. I must have gotten lucky because I truly like my job, environment, and the people that I work with.

I’m a huge car enthusiast, and you’ll see that I tend to write about a lot of car-related topics on here. I’ve had a decent number of vehicles in my young life, which you can see the progression of here. My latest toy is a Dodge Viper GTS:

This blog is about my life adventure. I will not only be posting about my businesses, but also about my life, my interests, the people I care about and more. I hope that some of the things I post on here are helpful, inspirational, and of interest to you.
