A Pre-Public Preview of The 2008 Infiniti G37 S Coupe

My daily driver car is an Infiniti G35 coupe. It’s a great car, it offers a nice mix of sport and luxury. Earlier this year, the new Infiniti G35 sedan was released, and it was a monstrous improvement over the previous version. With much sleeker lines, a more refined look, and a ton of new features, Infiniti had a winner on their hands.

Then the G37 coupe was announced, named the G37 now because of the new 3.7 liter V6 rather than the older 3.5. Pictures were in my opinion ok, but I thought that I would still prefer my older version over it. In pictures the car looked bulky and had some weird lines…something wasn’t right. Boy was I wrong!? I received an invitation from my local Infiniti dealership to come check out a pre-general public preview of the G37 yesterday, and I thought I’d give it a chance to see it in person.

I have to say, in person the car absolutely blew me away!? I was ready to put a deposit down for one I liked it so much. Check out the pics:

Infiniti G37 coupe 19?? wheels

One of the options features 19″ wheels all around with some nice brakes.

Infiniti G37 coupe paddle shifters

Push start with smart key technology is included on all of the G37’s and optional paddle shifters can be had.

Infiniti G37 coupe rear-view camera

Another cool option is the rear-view camera, built into the spoiler of the car.? I also love the LED brake light strip in the spoiler.

Infiniti G37 coupe taillight

It’s pretty neat how the button to open the trunk is located in the taillight.

The navigation package includes a 9GB built in hard drive that you can store your MP3’s on and listen to music.

After looking at the new G37, I feel like my G35 just looks outdated and boxy :( ? Good job Infiniti!

Do you like it just as much as me?? It definitely looks much better in person.

Man, how can you possibly keep driving that old G35? :)

This car does look amazing and has some really cool features. With my recent post about the Scion xB, our car budgets are obviously quite different but if you can swing it, I would give serious thought to upgrading the G35 to the G37.

Well there are two major things that are stopping me from getting the G37:

    1) I now hate to buy cars new due to the major depreciation. The sticker price on my G35 was $39,000. It’s a 2004 that I bought in 2006 (March) for around $26,000. So in just two years it lost $13,000. When I sell it after about a year and a half, I will probably only lose a $4,000 at the very most and at the best maybe $1-2k. That’s a huge difference in overall amount of money lost in generally the same timeframe.

    2) In Virginia we have to pay a property tax every year on cars. I believe it’s taxed at either 3.5% or 4.5%…but the state covers 70% of the first $20,000 as a “tax relief”. The amount taxed is based on the NADA assessed value of the car from January of that year. So on a $40,000 G37, which will be assessed most likely around that price, I’ll be looking to pay at least $1,300 in property tax (on top of sales tax) in the first year alone. That turns me off of new expensive cars big time. I really wish VA would get rid of this as it’s a ridiculous thing to do.

What to do what to do.

I know exactly what you mean. With my wife wanting the xB, I mentioned a used one to her but she doesn’t like the old design at all.

I’m lucky in that we only have to pay an annual fee for our license plate sticker but aren’t taxed on the personal property. That alone would probably be enough to keep me from getting the new car.

i like the overall design to the new G coupe. i work for a nissan dealership and i have to say that the Altima coupe looks pudgy and fat compared to the new G coupe. it is good to see that the infiniti division is not loosing their design philosophies with their vehicle lineup. i applaud infiniti and can’t wait until the next gen Q45 premiers in two years!
