2008 BMW M3 (E92) Production Pictures
I am a huge car buff, and since before I could drive I had a timeline of cars that I had to have in my lifetime. They were:
- BMW M3
- Dodge Viper
- Ferrari
- Lamborghini
I have already had Dodge Viper, but I would like to get a GTS at some point…so I keep that on the list. I could have easily had an M3 by now, but my ActiveTuning company specializes in Nissan and Infiniti. This means that by me buying and driving a Nissan or Infiniti, I am promoting my business, and also using the expenses as a write-off for tax purposes…drastically reducing my overall cost in automotive expenses. I am thinking that in the next year or so I will be switching out my Infiniti G35 Coupe with something else…and an M3 is at the top of my list right now.
The version of the M3 (the E92) is set to be released in the US mid-next year, and all we got so far were concept pictures. Autoweek finally got a hold of a few production picture, which gives us a look at exactly how the car will look in real life. The new M3 will now have a V8 with 420hp at 8,300 rpm. There are many other new technologies which make the car very exciting, read more about it in the Autoweek article if you want to know more.

I think the car looks great, and very agressive…which is how an M3 should look. I personally think from an exterior-standpoint, the older E46 looks better (but maybe that will change when I see it in person). Here’s a picture of the current E46 M3:

I think the interior on the new one definitely looks much more refined though. As of right now, I’m leaning more towards getting a used E46. For those of you that want similar E92 looks, but for a better price, consider the 335i coupe. It’s not as aggressive, but does feature twin turbos and an underrated 300hp starting at $40,000.
Update 4/7/2007: A new batch of official pictures has been posted at Autoblog.

04/11/2007 9:51 pmThe E92 M3 has been growing on me since I first saw pics of the “concept” at the Geneva Auto Show. I love the E46 M3 and like you, prefer it over the upcoming model - at least for now.
Either way, I say get an M3 and cross it off your list. You’ll feel great knowing you’re one step closer to accomplishing that “task” everytime you’re behind the wheel. You could always expand ActiveTuning to German marques. Uncle Sam still gets his cut in the end. = )

04/12/2007 10:09 amCognoscente: I’ve definitely been considering expanding AT into some BMW parts. One of the major benefits for me personally would be all the tax write-offs I would get on the car if I were to get it.
At the same time, saving up to buy a house is also semi-stopping me from another car. But when your best friends have these cars it’s hard to not try and keep up:
- Dodge Viper
- Subaru STI (Modified)
- 06′ Z06 Vette
- Nissan 350Z
- R32 GT-R Nissan Skyline
- 06′ Mustang GT (Modified)
- Nissan 350Z
- Toyota Supra TT (Modified 800+ hp)
It’s tough when your circle of friends drives these cars.

12/03/2007 10:25 amThe car you have pictured claiming to be the current E46 M3 is actually the M3 CSL, or Coupe Sport Lightweight. It was limited to a production of 1400 cars in 2002. It is a lighter, 360hp version of the M3. The actual CSL model was never released to the united states, but several options from the car were made available in the M3 CZP or Competition Package

12/03/2007 11:10 amJustin - Good eye! You’re right, there are no CSL models in the US, but it’s close enough to the standard E46 M3 that it at least show what I mean

12/03/2007 11:23 amYeah, I got ya man. Very nice car none the less. The E90/92 M3 is an awesome car, and I can’t wait to get a look at one. Maybe a bit over priced though…

12/03/2007 11:30 amI completely agree, and actually the more I look at pictures, the more I like it. Even now, the E46 is starting to look more bloated now that I see the new 3-series coupe (Which I am a huge fan of, and considering picking one up) driving around. I’m sure in person over time I will probably like the E90/92 M3 better.
